There are three main pedigree registries used by cat breeders in the UK:
- The Governing Council of the Cat Fancy (GCCF)
- The International Cat Association (TICA)
- Federation Internationale Feline (FIFe) - represented in the UK by Felis Britannica
Each of us uses one or more of these registries to register our Maine Coon kittens. Each organisation issues their own registration documents and pedigrees, but will recognise pedigrees from other reputable registries when a cat is “imported” into that registry.
The GCCF is a UK-only registry. Registration documents and Certified Pedigrees are issued centrally by the GCCF Office. A GCCF Registration Certificate is pink coloured and lists just the parents of the registered cat. Certified pedigrees (showing the pedigree line) are available at extra cost from the GCCF Office.
TICA (The International Cat Association) is an international registry, with documents issued centrally by the Executive Office in Texas, USA. A TICA Registration Certificate is a blue-grey colour and lists just the parents of the registered cat. Certified Pedigrees are available from the EO at extra cost. Further information on UK TICA shows can be found here.
Felis Britannica is part of FIFe, and although the format of a pedigree may differ between FIFe members, a FIFe pedigree is automatically recognised by any member of FIFe. In the UK, Felis Britannica issues a 4 generation certified pedigree that acts as the registration document.
